Job Title: Orthodontic Assistant Reports to : Office Manager Welcome to Nelson Family Orthodontics! We are looking for our Orthodontic Assistant. You will work closely with Dr. Nelson to provide care for our patients as we start from the ground up. Please read thoroughly to understand the position; your job duties, requirements, and training period. Job Description: A Orthodontic Assistantâs priority is excellent patient care. This job requires an outgoing, energetic personality. You determine the patientâs overall experience in our office. Your job requires attention to detail and accuracy. You are executing the treatment plan provided by the doctor. It is crucial that you listen to the doctorâs directions, perform the procedures correctly and efficiently, and accurately chart the patientâs visit. Responsibilities: Following Procedures: You will follow the procedures listed in the Training Manual. The Trainer will guide you to follow the correct steps for each procedure. It is expected that each Orthodontic Assistant is uniform in every procedure. We want to eliminate shortcuts that could result in emergency visits. Staying within Appt Times: On average, an Orthodontic Assistant can see 15-20 patients on any given day. It is important to stay within the allotted appointment time. The Office Manager will run a weekly report to ensure all Orthodontic Assistants are staying within expected procedure times. Detailed Chart Notes: At the end of each visit, you will record the treatment notes in the patientâs chart. The patientâs chart is a legal medical record. You must record every discussion between patient (or parent) and doctor. You will also document what was done during the appointment. Refrain from using slang or unprofessional verbiage. Instruments: It is your job to maintain the appearance of our instruments. Keeping them clear of o-ties and other materials that can melt and cause them to look unsanitary. You will also keep up with sterilization of the instruments throughout the day. Always stock cassettes in the appropriate area ready for assistants to grab. Communicating with Doctors / Patients / Parents: Communication is key! We encourage parents to sit in on the patientâs appointment. We want to provide open communication between the assistant, patient, parent, and doctor. Discuss what is being done at todayâs visit and what will be done at the next visit. Communicating with Patients / Parents: Introduce yourself to the patient and parent. Talk to the patient! Ask them about their day, their favorite hobbies, sports, movies, etc. We care about our patients! Make them feel at home. Educate patients on proper oral health and at-home directions for care Opening / Closing Duties: You will have a checklist for daily opening and closing duties. Cleaning and disinfecting dental equipment, instruments, and patient areas Front desk administration: contacting patients, scheduling appointments, billing and insurance communication, ordering and stocking supplies Education: High School Diploma or GED X-Ray Certification CPR Certification 1-3 years Experience as Orthodontic Assistant Dental Assistant Certification in the State of Texas Work Schedule : We are a startup Orthodontic practice in a fast growing area and are looking for an Orthodontic Assistant to work part time (1-3 days a week) leading into a full time position.
