Position Summary: The Surgical Assistant is responsible for assisting the doctor in clinical procedures and in the delivery of required medical services.
Responsibilities:
1. Prepare records for the day’s patients and arrange in order of appointment. Prepare chart forms as may be necessary.
2. Maintain general appearance, cleanliness and organization of clinical and office areas.
3. Sterilize instruments and maintain clinical equipment.
4. Take x-rays.
5. Prepare patients for the practice’s services.
6. Conduct patient education activities.
7. Instruct patients regarding preparation for procedures.
8. Take patient histories.
9. Administer selected medications under the supervision of the doctor.
10. Assist the doctor in the conduction of clinical services.
11. Coordinate reference laboratory services.
12. Assist in compliance with OSHA infection control and communication regulations.
13. Maintain safe conditions in patient treatment areas.
14. Perform other duties as may be requested by and coordinated between the Office Administrator and Doctor from time to time, and as the Surgical Assistant may be qualified.
15. Assist in compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Position Qualifications: A graduate of medical or dental assisting or nursing program required. Previous clinical experience required. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and dental and medical terminology is required. Radiology and anesthesia assisting certification preferred. A candidate coming from OMS required; coming from a retiring OMS with years of loyalty and experience a plus. DAANCE certification required by end of second (2nd) anniversary date of hire. CPR certified and hospital credentialed through Centura.
