Who We're Looking For:

1. Clinical Skills: Strong clinical skills are essential for performing tasks such as dental cleanings, scaling, applying fluoride treatments, taking X-rays, and conducting patient assessments. The ability to work efficiently and effectively with patients is crucial.

2. Communication Skills: Interact with patients regularly, providing education on oral hygiene practices and explaining treatment plans. Good communication skills are vital for building rapport with patients and ensuring they understand and follow through with oral health recommendations.

3. Attention to Detail: Dental hygiene involves precision and attention to detail, especially when performing cleanings, taking X-rays, and assessing the condition of patients' teeth and gums. Hygienists need to be thorough in their work to ensure accurate diagnoses and effective treatment.

4. Adherence to Infection Control Protocols: Given the importance of maintaining a clean and safe environment in a dental office, hygienists must adhere to strict infection control protocols. 

5. Teamwork and Collaboration: Work closely with dentists, dental assistants, and other members of the dental team. The ability to collaborate effectively, communicate with colleagues, and contribute positively to a team environment is highly valued.

Responsibilities

1. Patient Assessment: Assess patients' oral health by reviewing their medical history, conducting oral exams, and taking X-rays. 
2. Cleanings and Scaling: Perform professional dental cleanings to remove plaque, tartar, and stains from the teeth.  Also perform scaling and root planing procedures to address more advanced gum disease (6-8 patients a day)
3. Education and Counseling: Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, including brushing, flossing, and the use of other dental aids.
4. Topical Fluoride Application: Apply fluoride treatments to help prevent tooth decay. This may involve the use of gels, foams, or varnishes.
5. Screening for Oral Diseases: Check for signs of oral diseases, such as gingivitis or periodontitis. Also screen for oral cancer by examining the soft tissues of the mouth and throat.
6. Taking and Developing X-rays: Take dental X-rays to help diagnose and identify issues not visible during a regular oral examination.
7. Record Keeping: Maintain detailed and accurate patient records, including their oral health history, treatment plans, and any procedures performed. This documentation is essential for tracking a patient's progress and coordinating care with other members of the dental team.
8. Collaboration with Dentists: Work closely with dentists to develop treatment plans and discuss any concerns or issues identified during patient assessments. 
9. Infection Control: Ensuring a clean and safe environment is crucial in our office. Follow strict infection control protocols, including proper sterilization of instruments and maintaining aseptic conditions during procedures.

Overall, dental hygienists play a key role in promoting and maintaining oral health, and their work contributes significantly to the overall success of a dental practice.
