ental hygienists are registered dental professionals who prevent and treat oral disease. They perform a variety of duties, including:
Cleaning teeth: Remove plaque, tartar, and stains from teeth using special instruments, paste, and a rubber cup
Applying sealants and fluoride: Apply sealants and fluoride to help protect teeth
Taking X-rays: Take and develop dental X-rays to help dentists see teeth roots, nerves, sinuses, and more
Assessing oral health: Perform oral health screenings and assess patients' oral health
Educating patients: Teach patients how to brush and floss correctly
Creating treatment plans: Create treatment plans for patients
Documenting care: Document patient care and treatment plans
Updating patient histories: Update patient histories
Maintaining equipment: Maintain and inventory dental office equipment
Administering local anesthesia: In some states, dental hygienists can administer local anesthesia to numb a patient's mouth
Treating dental conditions: Treat dental conditions like periodontal disease
Helping patients feel comfortable: Help patients feel comfortable during their visits
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.88 - $29.45 per hour
Expected hours: 38 â 42 per week
