Summary: The dental hygienist is a licensed dental auxiliary who specializes in preventive dental care, treats and educates patients in the control and prevention of oral disease such as caries (cavities) and periodontal (gum) disease through proper oral hygiene instructions and regular professional care. Common procedures performed include dental cleanings, fluoride treatments, scaling and root planing, radiographs, and dental sealants. Formal Education Required

Graduation from a dental hygiene program that is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
Licensed in the State of Ohio upon completion of a minimum of two (2) years of school.
Current radiology certificate with Ohio Dental Board.
Experience & Training Required

Detailed in charting.
Must be familiar with proper sterilization techniques and digital x-rays.
Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications

Excellent oral communication skills with ability to interact professionally and compassionately with patients, co-workers, residents, and dentists.
Ability to relate patient data/dental history to doctor.
Knowledge of dental terminology and CDT codes.
Basic computer skills and experience with Dental software.
Population Specific Competency: ability to effective interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity.
Level of Physical Demands Sedentary: Exerts up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequency.
