Very modern, privately owned, periodontal office in Lawrence, KS looking for an enthusiastic dental hygienist to become part of one of the most innovative specialty offices in the Midwest.
The ideal candidate would have a desire to lead the hygiene program, as well as display outstanding time management and communication skills, and a strong sense of ownership and integrity. Applicant would ideally have an ambition to excel at both treating and educating our patients by possessing a thorough knowledge of dentistry, dental hygiene and periodontics. The office is currently open Monday – Thursday from 8-5 pm with the opportunity to expand.
Essential duties & Responsibilities:
· Performing periodontal exams for new and existing patients
· Prepare operatory for first patient, including running water lines, placing infection control barriers, and reviewing patient records for the day
· Performing scaling and root planning and periodontal maintenance procedures: take routine manual blood pressure, review/update medical history, anesthetize patient utilizing topical anesthetic and local anesthetic. Complete thorough removal of all deposits with combination of ultrasonic and curette instrumentation. Complete final appointment with either prophy paste or prophy-jet. Sharpen instruments as necessary.
· Complete basic periodontal examination to include oral hygiene evaluation, take and/or review appropriate x-rays, oral pathology screening, chart periodontal pockets, supragingival scaling with isolating subgingival root instrumentation, and supragingival polishing. Enter appropriate information in computer charting.
· Present information to doctor to review for treatment plan recommendations.
· Explaining proper home care and easily explaining proper techniques
· Advise patients of appropriate oral hygiene procedures, provide patient with appropriate patient education to increase patient awareness of disease process and options for treatment.
· Follow infection control guidelines specific to OSHA and this office for maintenance of operatory, personal protective equipment, and personal and patient safety
· Organize and maintain operatory in orderly and clean fashion, keeping supply levels stocked and timely advisement to individual in charge or ordering of upcoming shortages
· Desire to learn new periodontal protocols and procedures through CE
· End of day: prepare room for next patient. Run Sterilex through water lines on Tuesday night and leave until next day, then run distilled water through lines.
