As a Dental Assistant at PHC, you will provide patient care under the direction of the staff Dentists and in accordance with the Iowa Dental Practice Act and the rules and regulations of the Iowa Board of Dental Examiners. You will support organizational success by following assigned workflows to support patient and staff satisfaction as well as financial success for the clinic. What You Will Do

Performs direct patient care as delegated by the dentist. Greets and establishes rapport with patient, ensuring patient is treated with care and compassion throughout visit. Collects and records patient blood pressure, pulse, and health history. Completes dental x-rays in compliance with regulatory codes. Collects and submits all patient services and billing information. Completes and maintains patient records and related documents in compliance with all regulations.
Prepares operatory procedure set up and materials for patient visit. Prepares and maintains dental instruments, materials, and equipment. Maintains documents for equipment maintenance as well as instrument and supply inventory. Performs pre-cleaning and transport of contaminated instruments and may perform sterile processing of instruments as assigned.
Instructs patients and family members on general oral health care and information related to post-treatment care. Ensures services and patient education aligned with patient’s age and physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and cultural needs.
Supports laboratory by pouring and trimming study models. Minimizes risk of radiation exposure to employees and patients applying proper procedures.
Provides backup support for the front desk staff as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Needed
REQUIRED

High school diploma or equivalent.
Excellent customer service skills.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Basic computer skills and proficiency using Microsoft Office applications and applicant tracking systems.
Detail oriented with high degree of accuracy.
Strong interpersonal skills and able to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Demonstrates professionalism with ability to remain calm in all situations and show empathy.
Licenses & Certifications: Current Iowa dental assistant and dental radiography registration (QDA); *Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers; *Current Mandatory Reporter Training: Child Abuse and Dependent Adult Abuse recognized by the State of Iowa
Must be obtained within the Introductory Period if not current.

PREFERRED

Work experience in a community health center
Clinic experience working with patients with varying age-related, physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs
Effective Spanish communication skills, written and verbal.
Licenses & Certifications: Current dental assistant certification through the Dental Assistant National Board, Inc.

Your experience and skills determine your base pay. The hiring range for this position is typically $17.00 - $21.25 per hour, though highly experienced candidates may earn up to $25.00 per hour. PHC also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:
