Position Description
This position is responsible for providing effective instruction including lab, clinical and/or didactic education for dental hygiene students.
Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions)

Provides clinical, didactic, and/or lab instruction
Provides evaluation of pathological findings by the student, and if necessary, arranges for referral for evaluation of the lesion by the appropriate discipline
Examines all dental hygiene patients for completion of the patient assessment; further dental recommendations are then made to the patient and treatment planning discussed with the student
Provides prescription for radiographs, and diagnostic evaluation of the completed radiographs
Provides local anesthesia to patients who require or request such medication, or instructs and supervises students and dental hygiene clinical faculty in
administering local anesthesia
Provides referrals to other dental offices or clinics for patients who are in pain and require care
Provides prescription and evaluation of sealants and Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) placed by the students
Manages medical emergencies that may occur in clinic and writes prescriptions for the emergency crash cart drugs
Evaluates patient's need for anti-bacterial rinse, and facilitates the prescription to obtain these products Provides input for program assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation related to the clinical environment Supports ADA CODA standards in operating the program as well as the objectives and mission of the institution Evaluates patient's medical histories if a medical consultation is required, and assists the student with the required signatures
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of American Dental Association, Commission on Dental Accreditation process
Knowledge of the current blood borne pathogen standard requirements regarding infection control and HazCom standards
Able to use a wide variety of teaching methods to promote learning Be innovative, creative, motivated
Ability to exhibit good interpersonal skills and work well with others
Able to maintain records accurately and be able to meet deadlines consistently Good organizational skills
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
Demonstrated resourcefulness, initiative, enthusiasm, and a sincere interest in helping students reach their maximum potential
Requirements:
Doctoral Degree in Dentistry

Graduate of an American Dental Association (ADA), Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) accredited Dental Program
Currently licensed in the State of NC or be license eligible and can write prescriptions
Two years private practice experience
Current CPR certification
Preferences:
Periodontics background Two years teaching experience A background in educational methodology
