Marquette University School of Dentistry, in association with a local affiliated hospital, seeks two (2) full-time Dental Assistants for its Comprehensive Care Clinic for its developing Advanced Dental Education General Practice Residency (GPR). Dental Assistants will join our innovative, growing team to provide the highest standard of comprehensive dental care services in our newly renovated state-of-the art clinic servicing medically challenged patients using highly advanced dental techniques, to include dental specialty care.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide dental assistance and instruction to dental residents during the examination, diagnostic testing, and comprehensive general dentistry treatment of patients, including hospital-based, medically challenged patients. Dental treatments include dental specialty care that general dentists would be able to perform as a private practice provider.
Provide dental assistance to dental residents and faculty during dental surgery and dental emergencies including: reassuring and comforting patients, monitoring patient comfort; taking x-rays; and assuring that clinic procedures are followed.
Assist dental residents and faculty with dental record keeping and proper referrals.
Maintain cleanliness of dental treatment rooms and sterilization of dental equipment and instruments per OSHA requirements.
Order and stock supplies using MUSOD procedures and maintain all related records and assist with budget monitoring and planning.
Facilitate the patient billing process including: preparing and submitting patient insurance forms, collecting payment, and recording patient treatment.
Office duties will be in support of the Dental Coordinator when needed to include phone communication, schedule appointments, handle patient files and provide information and assistance to patients, hospitals, insurance companies and doctorâs offices.
Assist in maintaining a department patient database and recall system including: scheduling appointments; sending postcards and keeping records.
Assist in monitoring the return of supplies, equipment, and medication issued to dental residents and faculty.
Assist in coordinating any repair and maintenance of dental equipment.
When needed, dental assist in the pre-doctoral clinics in general dentistry.
Communicate with suppliers and become familiar with training of new products, technology and equipment.
Attend in-service programs and various meetings as required.
Perform any and all related duties as required or assigned by the supervisor.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
High School education plus one year dental assistant experience required including knowledge of dental terminology and anatomy; regulator agency requirements; 4-handed dentistry; instrumentation; impression materials and cements; x-ray technology and procedures; sterilization procedures; patient management techniques; and Health-Care Provider CPR. Also requires dexterity, ability to tolerate long periods of bending, standing and walking, strong verbal and written communication skills as well as basic computer skills, excellent customer service and listening skills, discretion, flexibility, ability to work and communicate with people from a diverse population. The ability to work independently with little supervision and frequent interruptions in a fast-paced, demanding environment
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience in dental specialty care i.e. Prosthodontics/endodontics/oral surgery/advanced restorative procedures.
Experience in treatment of medically challenged dental patients to include special needs patients. Experience working in an academic setting and knowledge of Marquette University School of Dentistry policy and procedures are helpful
