I. JOB TITLE: Dental Hygienist
II. RESPONSIBLE TO: Dental Director
III. JOB SUMMARY: Provide patient examinations, radiographs, study models, prophylaxis, and fluoride treatments. Maintain operatories, sterilization room, lab, and equipment in a clean and orderly fashion. Consult with and assist the dentist in a full range of dental procedures.
IV. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide initial, recall and period examinations.
2. Take radiographs, develop and study models.
3. Scaling and prophylaxis.
4. Provide fluoride treatments
5. Root planing and curettage.
6. Do pit and fissure sealants.
7. Give instructions on oral hygiene.
8. Maintain operatories and rooms.
9. Clean and maintain instruments and equipment as needed.
10. Change solutions in sterilizers and x-ray developers as needed.
11. Assist the dentist with the following as needed:
· Do chairside assisting and lab work.
12. Remain current on all continuing education – current standards of care.
13. Evaluate/recommend products for public use as needed.
V. EVALUATED BY: Dentist
VI. QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A.S. or B.S. in Dental Hygiene.
2. Experience as a dental hygienist preferred.
3. Ability to work independently as required.
4. Ability to relate to patients in a pleasant yet businesslike manner.
VII. SALARY RANGE:
The health center shall pay competitive rates with the job market and feasible within center resources.
