JOB SUMMARY: The youth apprentice dental assistant supports the dentists & hygienists with clinical procedures and are responsible for a wide range of tasks including direct patient care, administrative duties, and laboratory functions consistent with professional standards and Community Health Systems (CHS) policies and procedures. CHS ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Assists providers in providing direct patient care, including tending to patient comfort. Seats patient, reviews health history, and takes and records blood pressure. Reviews need for pre-medication. Ensures patient electronic dental record available for dentistâs review. Assists providers with dental procedures including examinations, restorations, endodontics, oral surgery, and fixed and removable prosthetics. Completes coronal polishing and flossing as part of a dental prophylaxis. Provides oral hygiene instructions. Applies topical fluoride. Exposes radiographs. Takes alginate impressions; pours and trims models. Assures operatories are disinfected and instruments are sterilized according to current CDC and OSHA guidelines. Helps stock and tracking dental supplies. Prepares operatories and sets up procedure trays, organizing and laying out instruments for provider use. Provides post-operative instructions as directed. Works as part of a team to assure patients are treated professionally and efficiently. Maintains dental equipment and operatories following daily, weekly, and monthly schedules. Accurately collects, records, and reports data as needed for report and program monitoring. Maintains patient dental records and other information as required. Coordinates lab prescriptions and communication with dental labs. Participates training programs as assigned. Participates in all safety programs at CHS to ensure employee and patient safety. Actively participates in and is accountable for duties assigned that support the Mission and Values of being certified as a Patient Centered Medical Home. Other duties as assigned.
