Job Title: Dental Assistant - Corrections Requisition Number: 43232 Employment Type: Full Time Division: CORRECTIONAL HEALTH Compensation Type: Hourly Job Category: Patient Care Support Hours Worked: Mon-Thurs 10hr Shift Starts at 6:45A Location: Correctional Health Shift Worked: Day Job Description: Description: The Dental Assistant - CORR is responsible for the clinic and patient readiness including scheduling and organizing clinic maintenance. This position is responsible for chair-side assisting and performs variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. Typical Duties: Obtains and records patients’ vital signs, weight and collects specific observational data. Prepares patients for dental/denture treatment. Prepares operatories according to OSHA and TJC regulations. Performs and develops dental x-rays and performs routine QA on the x-ray processor. Prepares instruments for sterilization and operates sterilizers. Performs spore test (RAPID READOUT BIOLOGICAL INDICATOR), keeps records and services and maintains equipment. Maintains operatory inventory levels and cleanliness; performs mandatory assigned opening and closing specified clinic daily duties. Monitors and evaluates programs and services in adherence to the CHC dental program standards, OSHA standards, TJC, local ordinances, and state and federal laws applicable to assigned dental clinic. Interacts with internal and external customers with courtesy and respect expressing compassion and concern and projects a desire to be of service. Utilizes proper body mechanics when assisting transfer/transport of patients to and from dental chairs. Acts as dental care team member and assists with coverage at other Dental Centers as needed. Answers telephone, receives and relays messages and patient referrals as appropriate. Confirms next day patient appointments by telephone and notes responses on daily schedule printout. Maintains and continues professional growth and skill development by attending and participating in workshops, seminars and/ or other continuous education programs. Performs other related job duties as assigned. Qualifications: Required Education and Experience: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent. Completion of a Dental Assistant course from an accredited vocational school. 1 plus year of on the job training in a dentist’s office or dental clinic. Preferred Education and Experience: Texas State board license. Current JPS recognized BLS certification and must be maintained throughout employment. May be obtained subsequent to hire.
