Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Expanded Functions Dental Assistant to join our dynamic dental team. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of dental procedures, excellent patient care skills, and the ability to support a wide range of dental services. The Expanded Functions Dental Assistant will be responsible for providing chairside assistance, managing clinical procedures, and ensuring compliance with all safety and privacy regulations, including HIPAA standards. Prior experience with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic is highly desirable. Duties Assist the dentist during various procedures including restorations, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry. Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments and ensuring all necessary supplies are available. Take and develop dental X-rays, including 3D scans and medical imaging as needed. Manage patient records using EMR systems like Open Dental while maintaining HIPAA compliance. Perform vital signs assessment and document medical history accurately in medical records. Support infection control protocols through aseptic techniques and proper sterilization procedures. Educate patients on oral health care, post-operative instructions, and preventive practices. Assist with medical documentation and coding for insurance claims and billing processes. Support general dentistry services with four-handed dentistry techniques for efficiency. Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment adhering to infection control standards. Experience Proven experience as a Dental Assistant with familiarity in dental assisting procedures and terminology. Experience working with EMR systems such as Open Dental is preferred. Knowledge of infection control practices, aseptic technique, and anatomy relevant to dental procedures. Prior experience in pediatric dentistry or working with pediatric patients is advantageous. Certification in X-ray technology and proficiency in taking intraoral images is required. Familiarity with medical terminology, medical imaging, and medical documentation is beneficial. Strong understanding of dental specialties including prosthodontics, endodontics, and general dentistry enhances performance in this role.
