Duties Perform comprehensive dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup. Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions to inform treatment plans. Assist the dentist during examinations and procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to ensure efficiency and comfort. Take and interpret medical imaging such as X-rays, ensuring proper positioning and safety protocols are followed. Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and treatment options to promote lifelong dental health. Maintain accurate medical records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Dentrix, ensuring HIPAA compliance at all times. Follow strict infection control protocols utilizing aseptic techniques to prevent cross-contamination and ensure a sterile environment. Review documentation for accuracy, update medical records regularly, and assist with medical coding for billing purposes. Monitor patient vital signs before procedures to ensure safety during treatments involving anesthesia or sedation when applicable. Qualifications Valid state licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist with current certification to practice. Proven experience in general dentistry with a strong background in dental terminology, infection control, and medical records management. Familiarity with EMR systems such as Dentrix is highly preferred. Ability to perform dental procedures, including scaling, polishing, fluoride application, and patient education, confidently. Strong understanding of anatomy, medical terminology, and medical coding relevant to dental care. Excellent patient care skills with the ability to assess patient needs accurately while demonstrating compassion and professionalism. Commitment to maintaining HIPAA compliance by safeguarding patient information at all times. Experience in chairside assisting within a general dental practice is advantageous.
