Responsibilities Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing, to remove plaque and tartar buildup. Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including vital signs, medical history review, and oral examinations to evaluate overall health and identify potential issues. Take and develop dental radiographs (medical imaging) and utilize EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems to document findings accurately. Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and treatment options to promote lifelong dental health. Assist in chairside procedures, providing support during general dentistry and pediatric dentistry treatments, ensuring patient comfort and safety. Apply aseptic techniques and infection control protocols to maintain a sterile environment, adhering to HIPAA regulations and dental safety standards. Review and update medical and dental records, ensuring compliance with documentation review and medical coding requirements. Collaborate with the dental team to ensure efficient patient flow, including four-handed dentistry techniques for optimal care delivery. Monitor and record vital signs and medical information, recognizing signs that may require referral or further medical assessment. Support the dental officeâs commitment to quality care by maintaining a thorough understanding of dental terminology, anatomy, and infection control procedures. Qualifications Valid state licensure and certification as a Dental Hygienist. Proven experience in dental office settings, with a strong background in general dentistry and pediatric dentistry preferred. Proficiency with dental practice management software such as Eaglesoft and Dentrix. Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and infection control protocols. Experience with dental assisting, chairside assisting, and medical imaging techniques. Ability to perform patient care with compassion, professionalism, and attention to detail. Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and medical records management. Strong understanding of medical terminology, medical coding, and documentation review processes. Excellent communication skills to educate and reassure patients of all ages, especially pediatrics. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating teamwork and adaptability.
