Responsibilities Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup. Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions to tailor personalized treatment plans. Assist the dentist during various procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance efficiency and patient comfort. Take and interpret medical imaging such as X-rays, ensuring proper positioning and safety protocols are followed. Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, including brushing, flossing, and dietary recommendations for optimal dental health. Maintain accurate and detailed medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations and office policies. Prepare treatment rooms with sterile instruments using aseptic techniques to prevent infection transmission. Monitor patient vital signs before, during, and after procedures to ensure safety. Review documentation for accuracy and completeness, supporting medical coding and billing processes. Uphold infection control standards by following established protocols for sterilization and sanitation of dental tools and environment. Support pediatric dentistry procedures when working with young patients, creating a friendly atmosphere that eases anxiety. Collaborate seamlessly with the dental team to ensure smooth clinic operations and excellent patient care experiences. Qualifications Valid Dental Hygienist license in accordance with state regulations. Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and aseptic technique. Proficiency in taking and interpreting medical imaging (X-rays) along with understanding vital signs monitoring. Excellent patient care skills with the ability to assess patient needs effectively and communicate clearly. Experience with medical records management, documentation review, and medical coding processes. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times. Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently while maintaining a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.
