Responsibilities Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing teeth to remove plaque and tartar buildup. Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, taking vital signs, and evaluating oral health status. Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques and preventive care strategies to promote lifelong dental health. Assist the dentist during various procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to ensure smooth workflow and patient comfort. Take and develop dental radiographs (medical imaging) while adhering to strict infection control protocols. Review and document medical records accurately, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations for patient privacy. Monitor and record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration rate, and temperature before procedures. Maintain a sterile environment using aseptic techniques, sterilize instruments, and uphold infection control standards. Manage dental office software systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix for scheduling, documentation review, and record keeping. Provide chairside assisting during general dentistry procedures, ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout treatment. Assist with medical coding and documentation review to support accurate billing processes. Support pediatric dentistry initiatives by creating a friendly atmosphere for young patients and understanding pediatric-specific needs. Requirements Valid licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist in accordance with state regulations. Proven experience in dental hygiene or dental assisting within a clinical setting; experience in pediatric dentistry is a plus. Proficiency with dental practice management software such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix. Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control procedures, and medical terminology. Ability to perform comprehensive patient care including patient assessment, medical records management, and documentation review. Excellent communication skills to effectively educate patients about oral health practices. Familiarity with EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems and medical coding standards. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality of patient information. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
