Responsible for assisting the dental providers with the provision of high quality, preventive and restorative patient centered primary oral health care to InterCareâs target populations. Description of Primary Duties & Responsibilities 1. Provides efficient and effective patient preventive care according to the adopted clinical standards. Prepares the room for patient treatment. Seats the patient, and prepares patients for treatment, including blood pressures, pulse, and patient identification. Documents correctly in EHR, EDR, and EPM as needed. Provides preventative treatment, including caries risk assessment, periodontal assessment, prophylaxis, taking radiographs, applying sealants and fluoride. Provides understandable and complete instructions for procedures done, using diverse learning techniques, and documentation of the patients understanding. Teaches patient appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health. Cleans the room after patient treatment according to infection control procedures. Stocks the rooms, so all treatment is completed without having to leave the room for supplies. Cleans and sterilizes instruments according to all policies and procedures. Schedules return appointments. Meets all accepted dental treatment standards to provide quality care. Maintains clinical productivity to achieve annual patient visits equal to or greater than 1500 visits per 1.0 FTE. 2. Participates constructively as a clinical team member. Meets staff satisfaction expectations. Communicates openly with other staff and site managers. Regularly attends site, and assigned meetings. Returns phone messages, and e-mails in a timely manner. Adheres to all Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals. Adheres to all OSHA standards. Completes all annual competencies. Uses tools and equipment in accordance with safety guidelines and regulations. Maintains all equipment according manufacturers recommendations. Professional and Technical Knowledge Possesses a thorough understanding of theory and practices of dentistry, acquired through graduating from an accredited four year Bachelor of Dental Hygiene program or a two year Associates in Dental Hygiene program. Maintains active license through State of Michigan to practice dental hygiene. Maintains State of Michigan continuing education requirements for licensing. Maintains BLS requirement. BLS is a mandatory by InterCare and our FTCA agreement with the Federal Government. It must be completed within 90 days of hire. Thorough working knowledge of prevailing standards of care, InterCareâs clinical guidelines, and patient care policies and procedures. Technical Skills Proficient in EHR, EDR, and EPM. Ability to use and respond to email. Ability to use other InterCare desktop tools, including Healthcare Safety Zone reporting, Jabber, Net Learning, and iTAC. Communication Skills Possesses a professional level of written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate complex concept in a clear effective manner. Possesses excellent cross cultural communication skills and the ability to communicate to staff members at all levels. Physical Demands Job duties are performed in the typical office environment of the organization, which requires ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations. The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following: Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, frequently sit, and lift up to 25 lbs. Requires good hand-eye coordination, reach with arms & hands, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and manipulate (using keyboard, office equipment, dental equipment). Visual acuity to use keyboard, operate office equipment, and read printed material and regularly required to talk and hear.
