Healthcare Staffing Professionals has an immediate need for a Registered Dental Assistant to work in a correctional facility located in Sacramento, CA. Under supervision, assists in the related work of a dental office; prepares patients for dental treatments; assists the dentist at chairside; performs dental clerical work; conducts activities for regional dental clinics, detention or Public Health oral health programs; and does other related work as required. Pay Rate: $38.50/hr Location: Sacramento, CA Distinguishing Characteristics: Incumbents in this class are responsible for performing a variety of dental procedures that require knowledge of dental equipment, materials, procedures and terminology. Incumbents in this class report to higher-level supervisory and/or dental management personnel. This class is distinguished from the next higher-level class of Registered Dental Hygienist in that the latter performs, develops, and implements the dental hygiene care plan and provides clinical services. The Registered Dental Hygienist class may be also responsible for promoting oral health program goals in public health programs through oral health education, health screenings, and coalition development. Job Duties: Coordinates delivery of dental screening and prevention services at a variety of sites throughout the County. Provides preventive dental care at program sites, including risk assessment, anticipatory guidance, fluoride varnish, and coronal polish. Schedules patient appointments, maintains records of patient admissions, examinations results, dental work performed, and patient volume; keeps dental office/treatment area and equipment neat, clean and sanitary. Prepares and arranges dental instruments, equipment and accessories; sterilizes, maintains and monitors dental instruments and equipment Exposes and mounts dental radiographs; assists in dental laboratory; and mixes and maintains supplies of solutions, such as sterilizing solutions. Presents information and training on oral health and program services to the patient and staff. Assists a dentist or dental hygienist in chairside functions such as application of topical agents, removal of dental dressings and sutures, and placement and removal of orthodontic separators. Collects and maintains accurate client data in appropriate database(s); ensures compliance with applicable privacy regulations. Assists with the gathering of client data and treatment effectiveness, provides suggestions for program quality improvement; complies with quality control measures. Maintains inventory and storage of clinical supplies, and monitors expiration dates. Handles hazardous material and waste appropriately. Prepares a variety of correspondence and oral health informational/educational materials. Performs related duties as assigned. Knowledge Of: Applicable laws, rules and regulations related to dental health programs The principles and methods of sterilization of dental equipment, instruments and supplies Dental radiographic techniques The care and use of common dental equipment, instruments and materials Dental record keeping The numbers and letters of teeth Dental terminology The theories, methods and procedures for providing oral hygiene instruction, appropriate information addressing the prevention of dental disease to the patient and staff Current materials, practices, and methods used in dental health education programs Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and other specialized applications related to area of assignment English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation Principles of effective customer service Ability To: Deal courteously and tactfully with patients, co-workers and other members of the health care team Follow clinic policies, routines and techniques Understand and carry out written and oral instructions Provide technical assistance and give group and individual instruction to local agencies, and communities concerned with dental health programs Develop materials for dental health education Work independently and exercise independent judgment Understand the differing racial, cultural, and environmental backgrounds of individuals, families, and communities served by the dental health care program Establish and maintain cooperative, effective working relationships with customers, co-workers, other agencies and the general public Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action Effectively organize and prioritize work assignments Keep accurate and orderly records Maintain confidential information Interpret and apply applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations Apply customer service skills, including the identification of customer needs and follow up to ensure customer commitments have been met Minimum Qualifications: - Possession of a valid license as a Registered Dental Assistant issued by the Dental Board of California. License Requirement: - A valid California Driver License, Class C or higher, may be required at the time of appointment. Failure to obtain or maintain the appropriate California Driver License, or comply with state and federal requirements for utilization, may constitute cause for personnel action in accordance with Civil Service Rules or applicable bargaining agreement. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis -A valid license as Registered Dental Assistant issued by the Dental Board of California is required at the time of appointment. Failure to obtain and maintain the required license may constitute cause for personnel action in accordance with Civil Service Rules or applicable bargaining agreement.
