Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Orthodontic Assistant to join our dental team. The ideal candidate will support orthodontists in providing exceptional patient care, ensuring smooth clinical operations, and maintaining high standards of infection control. Experience with EMR systems and dental software such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, and Epic is preferred. This role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment focused on pediatric and general dentistry, utilizing advanced dental technology including 3D scanners and medical imaging. The Orthodontic Assistant will play a vital role in assisting with chairside procedures, patient education, and medical documentation. Duties Assist orthodontists during various procedures including braces placement, adjustments, and removals using four-handed dentistry techniques. Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments and materials, ensuring aseptic technique and infection control protocols are followed. Take and develop X-rays, including 3D scans and other medical imaging as required. Record vital signs, medical history, and relevant patient information accurately in EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic. Educate patients on orthodontic care, oral hygiene practices, and post-treatment instructions. Manage patient records, update medical documentation, and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations. Coordinate appointments, follow-ups, and assist with administrative tasks typically associated with dental reception duties. Maintain inventory of supplies and sterilize instruments according to infection control standards. Support pediatric dentistry cases when needed by applying appropriate dental terminology and assisting with specialized procedures. Qualifications Proven experience as a Dental Assistant or Orthodontic Assistant in a dental clinic setting. Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques. Familiarity with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, Epic or similar platforms; experience with medical coding is a plus. Ability to operate X-ray equipment safely and effectively; certification in radiography preferred. Strong understanding of pediatric dentistry principles and procedures. Excellent communication skills to educate patients effectively and collaborate with team members. Certification or training in chairside assisting, medical imaging, or related fields is highly desirable. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and patient comfort.
