Summary A Dental Hygienist is a skilled oral health professional who supports patients in achieving and maintaining optimal oral health. They assist Dentists by conducting screenings, taking X-rays, and providing support during dental visits, ensuring comprehensive care and promoting overall dental well-being. Dental Hygienist duties revolve around conducting initial patient screenings, cleaning teeth (e.g. removing plaque and calculus) and advising patients on oral health and preventative care. Work Experience and Requirements 2+ years’ experience as Dental Hygienist or similar role Bilingual preferred Experience with children preferred In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations in this profession (e.g. HIPAA) Experience in preparing and maintaining dental equipment Education Must possess valid license as a Registered Dental Hygienist from the Dental Board of California. Computer literate and have experience with Microsoft Word and Outlook. Possession of up-to-date CPR certification and completion of yearly OSHA training Skills Excellent fine motor control, speaking, active listening, reading comprehension, time management, writing, critical thinking, negotiation, judgment/decision making; social perceptiveness; coordination Examples of Duties Under General Supervision Perform all duties assigned to dental assistants and registered dental assistants, under the supervision of a licensed dentist. Root Planing Polish and contour restorations Oral exfoliative cytology Apply pit and fissure sealants Preliminary examination, including but not limited to: Periodontal charting Intra and extra-oral examination of soft tissue Charting of lesions, existing restorations and missing teeth Classifying occlusion Myofunctional evaluation Under Direct Supervision Periodontal soft tissue curettage (evidence of satisfactory completion of board–approved course required). Administration of local anesthetic agents, infiltration and conductive, limited to the oral cavity (evidence of satisfactory completion of board–approved course required). Administration of nitrous oxide and oxygen when used as an analgesic utilizing fail safe type machines containing no other general anesthetics (evidence of satisfactory completion of board–approved course required). Other duties as assigned.
