Position Summary The Dental Assistant Lead provides assistance to dentists/hygienists in the general treatment of patients in both routine and emergency procedures in areas of diagnostic, preventive, restorative, periodontal, endodontic, pedodontics, orthodontic, oral surgery, and prosthodontic dental care. The lead also has responsibilities related to staff scheduling, supply management, inventory, compliance, and problem solving. Nevada Health Centers is an employer of choice and offers comprehensive benefits, including but not limited to: Competitive compensation, with annual merit increases Company sponsored PPO medical plan and buy-up option, vision, and dental plans 403(b) retirement plan with employer match Generous time-off policy, and ten (10) paid holidays plus one (1) float holiday Company paid life/AD&D and long-term disability policies Essential Duties and Responsibilities Escorts patients from the waiting room to the exam room and from the exam room to check out Takes patientâs medical history and chief complaints, prepare for exam Documents pertinent patient information on the patientâs chart Performs simple X-Rays Arrange equipment, instruments, etc. required for the patientâs proposed treatment plan for that visit Assist dentists using four-handed dental assisting techniques in operative, endodontic, oral surgery, orthodontic, pedodontics, prosthodontic and periodontal procedures by performing oral evacuation, fabricating temporary crowns, custom trays, taking impressions, mixing cements, and assisting in the application of light cured material Assist cementing temporary crowns, removing excess cement, performing coronal polishing, removing sutures, applying temporary restorations, and applying topical fluoride treatments, sealants as directed by the dentist Completes required lab forms with correct billing information Translates for providers as needed if possible Provides patient oral health education and oral hygiene education Provides emotional support, compassion and is sympathetic to patient needs Triages phone calls and walk-ins at the clinic where applicable: performing those duties in accordance with policy and procedures Adheres to all OSHA, state and NVHC lab manual policy and procedures requirements Monitors for expired drugs as per policy Disinfect and clean treatment rooms and contaminated trays Manages supply inventory and orders needed supplies on a regular basis within budgeted expenses. Serves in trouble-shooting and problem-solving role with issues related to equipment repairs, process needs, etc. Provides training for new hires and continued training for employees, acts as subject matter expert for NVHC dental procedures and policies Manages and tracks all required documentation related to sterilization and performs sterilization of dental supplies on a regular basis. Establishes and communicates weekly dental assistant to provide assignments/schedules to assure adequate rotation. Maintains all department compliance certificates and assures appropriate documents are posted as required. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED Equivalent Certification of completion of a recognized one-year dental assisting program or one-year clinical work experience. Current BLS or CPR certification required. Preferred Qualifications Fluent in English and Spanish 3+ yearsâ experience as a dental assistant Experience in a mobile dental setting a plus Knowledge of the essential functions, practices and procedures of a dental clinic/office Ability to read, write, and calculate mathematical figures Knowledge of ADA and ICD-9-CM coding Ability to assist the dentist using four-handed dental assisting techniques Ability to apply sterile techniques and infectious control and exposure procedures Ability to travel distances for multiple days; when applicable Equal Opportunity Statement Nevada Health Centers will provide equal opportunity employment to all employees and applicants for employment.
