Responsibilities Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry, using four-handed dentistry techniques to improve efficiency. Prepare treatment rooms with sterilized instruments and materials, adhering strictly to infection control and aseptic techniques. Take dental radiographs (X-rays), ensuring proper positioning and safety protocols are followed to protect patients from radiation exposure. Manage patient records using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Conduct vital signs assessments and medical history updates to support safe treatment planning, especially for pediatric patients. Assist with medical imaging procedures and operate advanced equipment like 3D scanners when necessary for comprehensive diagnostics. Support the dental receptionist by scheduling appointments, managing patient flow, and verifying insurance information while maintaining excellent customer service. Maintain a clean, organized clinical environment following infection control standards and OSHA guidelines to ensure patient safety at all times. Skills Proficiency with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, for accurate documentation and scheduling. Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and medical coding to facilitate effective communication within the team. Experience with chairside assisting across various specialties including pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, and endodontics. Ability to operate dental imaging equipment including X-ray machines and 3D scanners confidently and safely. Familiarity with infection control practices, aseptic techniques, and sterilization procedures essential for maintaining a safe clinical environment. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in managing medical records and documentation while respecting patient privacy under HIPAA regulations. Knowledge of dental assisting best practices in general dentistry settings combined with experience working in fast-paced dental clinics. Ability to communicate effectively with patients of all ages, especially pediatrics, ensuring they feel comfortable during their visit.
