Job Title : Pediatric Dentist Reports To : Dental Director FLSA Status : Contractor Classification : Contractor, Temporary On-Call Schedule : Varies Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm Location : Onsite, position may be assigned to work at both IHC locations ROLE SUMMARY: Provides comprehensive dental care for infants, children, and adolescents. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The information in this contractor description indicates the general nature and level of work performed. It is not designed to be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties and responsibilities required of this contractor position. 1. Examine pediatric patients to determine the nature of dental condition. 2. Provide preventive dental services to patients such as applications of fluoride and sealants to teeth. 3. Educate patients and guardians including pregnant mothers, about the importance of appropriate diet, oral hygiene practices, exercise, and healthy primary/permanent dentitions. 4. Responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of dental diseases, injuries and malformations of the oral cavity and surrounding tissues. 5. Oral manifestations of systemic diseases are treated in conjunction with appropriate consultation and referral to the patient's physician. 6. Provide comprehensive dental care and education including preventative, operative, prosthodontic, and endodontic treatment. 7. Provide timely emergency treatment for all eligible patients according to dental emergency treatment protocol. 8. Attend continuing dental education to maintain current licenses and to be informed of new techniques and philosophies. 9. Participate in all department educational development activities to include but not limited to CQI, chart audits, referral follow up and departmental policies and procedure development. 10. Assist with in-service training, as needed. 11. Maintain and practice confidentiality at all times. 12. Manage patients with behavioral problems or disabling conditions through the use of conscious sedation and provides deep sedation in conjunction with an anesthesiologist when indicated. 13. Counsel and advise patients and family on growth and development including the importance of good oral health. 14. Position may be reassigned during activation of EOP. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has no supervisory responsibilities. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Graduate of an accredited dental school. Completion of an accredited residency program in pediatric dentistry. Minimum of five (5) years dentistry experience beyond pediatric residency. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Thorough knowledge of principles of modern dental practices to public services; structure and functions of public health organizations; and current social and economic problems pertaining to Native American. General knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to public health. Well-developed interpersonal skills with ability to interpret complex medical data essential. Creative, energetic individual with strong public relations abilities, professional demeanor, attitude, and motivation is essential. Self-motivated with the ability to exceed patient expectations. Excellent organizational skills to effectively handle multiple tasks. Flexibility to support change, with varying schedules as necessary. Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; coordinate activities among public, public, private, and professional groups; express ideas clearly and concisely. Address patients effectively and exercise balanced judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions. Productivity Software: Microsoft Office 365; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email & Calendar Management (outlook), Teams (video conferencing and meetings), and Share Point. Electronic health records software (Epic preferred). Utilization of Paycom and PolicyTech systems. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, MEMBERSHIPS AND REGULATIONS Dentist license (current and unrestricted). DEA license (current and unrestricted). Current BLS and PALS CPR certifications or attainment within 6 months of hire. Applicants must successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam, tuberculin skin test or x-ray and urine drug screen test. Health must be adequate to perform all duties of the position. Must pass criminal background check. Contribute to the success of the organization by participating in quality improvement activities. SAFETY 1. Maintain current knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to safe work practices. 2. Follow all safety procedures and report unsafe conditions. 3. Use appropriate body mechanics to ensure an injury free environment. 4. Follow all infection control procedures including blood-borne pathogen protocols. HIPAA/COMPLIANCE 1. Maintain privacy of all patient, employee, and volunteer information. Access such information only on a need-to-know basis and for business purposes only. 2. Comply with all regulations regarding corporate integrity and security obligations. 3. Report unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful behavior or activity. Indian Preference shall be given in accordance with IHC’s Policies and Procedures.
