Responsibilities Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry, ensuring smooth workflow and patient comfort. Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up necessary supplies, and maintaining aseptic techniques to prevent infection. Take and develop dental X-rays using advanced medical imaging equipment such as 3D scanners and traditional radiography tools, ensuring accurate diagnostics. Manage patient records by updating medical documentation, medical records, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy. Support front desk operations by acting as a dental receptionistâscheduling appointments, verifying insurance information in EMR systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix, and assisting with billing or coding as needed. Monitor vital signs and assess patient readiness for procedures by understanding anatomy knowledge and medical terminology. Implement infection control protocols, maintain sterile environments, and adhere to OSHA standards to ensure safety for patients and staff alike. Skills Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, four-handed dentistry, and taking vital signs. Experience with electronic medical records (EMR systems) such as Epic or Dentrix for accurate documentation. Knowledge of dental terminology, medical terminology, and medical coding to facilitate clear communication and precise record-keeping. Familiarity with dental equipment including X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and other diagnostic tools used in general dentistry and specialized fields like prosthodontics or endodontics. Strong understanding of infection control practices, aseptic technique, and anatomy knowledge essential for safe clinical procedures. Ability to coordinate with the dental team effectively while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
