JOB Dental Hygienist Coyote Ridge Corrections CenterConnell, WAMonday-Friday 0730- 1600The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Dental Hygienist for Coyote Ridge Corrections Center located outside the Tri Cities in Connell, WA.This position supports the mission by providing relief coverage as a dental assistant to ensure patient access to quality medically appropriate dental services with appropriate electronic and hard copy documentation in accordance with DOC policies and procedures, and the clinicians license and job class.Coyote Ridge Corrections Center has a diverse population seeing different chronic diseases and taking care of those that need long term and palliative care.Extended Observations unit up to 96 hr. stay (4 beds)Long term palliative care unitSee up to 2500 patients with different chronic disease ( diabetes, hypertension, cancer, autoimmune disorders and much more)The mission of the Department of Corrections is to 'improve public safety by positively changing lives. It is to the applicant's advantage to apply as early as possible."This recruitment could be used to fill multiple permanent or non-permanent positions" EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Duties will include: The following duties are allowed under General Supervision: (WAC 246-817-550 & RCW 18.29)Record health historiesTake and record blood pressure and vital signsPerform Head and neck examOral inspection and measuring of periodontal pockets, with no diagnosisPatient education in oral hygieneTake intra-oral and extra-oral radiographs and photographsGive pre-operative and post-operative instructionsGive fluoride treatmentsDeliver oral antibiotic prophylaxis as prescribed by a dentistAdminister local anesthetic agents and adjunctive proceduresApply topical anesthetic agentsPolish and smooth restorationsOral prophylaxis and removal of deposits and stains from the surfaces of the teethSterilize equipment and disinfect operatoriesPerform deep cleanings (Scaling/Root planning)Take impressions, bite registration, or digital scans of the teeth and jaws for diagnostics and opposing models: for occlusal night guards and custom fluoride traysPlace retraction cordPlace a temporary filling after diagnosis and examination by the dentist (like ZOE, IRM, etc..)Fabricate and deliver fluoride traysPack and medicate extraction areasSelect denture shade and moldThe following duties are allowed under Close Supervision Only: (WAC 246-817-560)Remove soft tissue under gingiva (curettage)Place approved medications (antimicrobials) prescribed by the dentist under the gingivaFacilitate the functions of the dental clinicCoordinate with assigned Patient Services Representative to accurately schedule patients for dental hygiene services in compliance with the dentistâs treatment plan.Cooperate with other health services and custody staff to ensure continuity of care and security and safety of the staff and patients.Communicate effectively in written and/or spoken English with incarcerated patients, vendors, and other staff members.Perform other duties as assigned by dentists and/or Health Services Managers.Perform other duties to ensure order and cleanliness of the dental clinic.DocumentationDocument encounters and treatment plans and the patientsâ medical recorddocument encounters in OMNI-HSparticipate in needle and equipment counts and maintaining dental clinic logbooks accurately and according to DOC policies.Respond timely to patients kites related to dental hygiene services and is directed by a DOC dentist.Communicate clearly with supervisors, peers and subordinates.Fill out incident reports and other documentation as appropriate.Other duties as assigned.
