Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Expanded Duty Dental Assistant (EDDA) to join our dental team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in chairside assisting, infection control, and dental procedures, with the ability to support a variety of dental specialties including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry. The EDDA will be responsible for providing exceptional support to our dentists and ensuring smooth clinic operations while maintaining the highest standards of safety and professionalism. Responsibilities Assist dentists during a wide range of dental procedures including restorations, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric treatments. Prepare treatment rooms and sterilize instruments following aseptic techniques and infection control protocols. Take and develop dental X-rays, including 3D scans, ensuring patient safety and comfort. Record vital signs and medical history information accurately within electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic. Manage patient medical documentation, records, and coding in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Support the dental team with administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments and managing patient flow as a dental receptionist when needed. Perform chairside assisting using four-handed dentistry techniques to improve efficiency and patient comfort. Educate patients on oral health care, post-treatment instructions, and explain procedures using appropriate dental terminology. Monitor patient vital signs during appointments to ensure safety throughout procedures. Operate medical imaging equipment for intraoral X-rays and other diagnostic imaging tools. Maintain a clean, organized clinical environment adhering to infection control standards. Support the integration of new technologies such as 3D scanners into clinical workflows. Skills Proficiency with Dentrix or similar platforms for medical documentation and records management. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality and data security. Skilled in taking intraoral X-rays, 3D scans, and other medical imaging techniques. Skilled in placing composite restorations, temporary crowns, and use of intra oral scanner Strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and infection control practices. Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently using four-handed dentistry techniques. Familiarity with medical coding for dental procedures and documentation requirements. Excellent communication skills to educate patients effectively about their oral health care needs. Ability to work well within a team environment supporting general dentistry as well as specialized fields like prosthodontics and endodontics. Demonstrated commitment to maintaining aseptic technique and adhering to infection prevention protocols.
