Position Overview: The Lead Dental Assistant is responsible for supporting the delivery of high-quality dental care across pediatric, special needs, and general anesthesia patient populations. This role provides direct chairside assistance to providers, supervises dental assistant staff, manages clinical workflow, and oversees compliance with sterilization and safety standards. The Lead Dental Assistant collaborates with clinical and administrative teams to ensure the practice's mission is realized: to offer dental and anesthesia services for individuals who cannot tolerate traditional dental settings, and to position the office as a trusted resource in the community. Key Responsibilities: Assist dentists during pediatric, special needs, general, and anesthesia procedures while maintaining optimal efficiency and patient comfort. Manage and coordinate daily clinical operations, ensuring smooth transitions between pediatric, general, and anesthesia services. Lead and mentor a team of dental assistants; provide training, assign daily roles, and support professional development. Oversee sterilization, infection control compliance, and operatory readiness in all clinical areas. Monitor inventory and supply management across multiple service areas, ensuring adequate stock and equipment maintenance. Serve as a key liaison between administrative and clinical teams to align scheduling, case preparation, and treatment flow. Support anesthesia coordination by preparing rooms, monitoring recovery protocols, and ensuring all safety procedures are followed. Maintain detailed and accurate patient records and documentation according to HIPAA and regulatory standards. Promote a culture of empathy, respect, and trust with patients and families, especially those with sensory or developmental challenges. Qualifications: Dental Assistant certification or licensure, as required by state regulations. At least 3 years of dental assisting experience, with demonstrated leadership preferred. Experience in pediatric, special needs, and anesthesia-based dental care strongly desired. Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment. Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR certification required.
