Duties Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry, ensuring all instruments and materials are prepared and sterilized according to infection control protocols. Operate dental equipment such as X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and medical imaging tools to capture accurate diagnostic images while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy. Take vital signs and medical histories, document medical records accurately using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Open Dental and ensure proper medical documentation and coding. Perform chairside assisting with aseptic techniques, maintaining a sterile environment to prevent infection transmission. Manage patient flow efficiently by greeting patients as a dental receptionist, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and updating medical records. Conduct intraoral examinations using dental terminology knowledge to assist with diagnosis and treatment planning. Support the implementation of infection control standards through proper sterilization procedures and knowledge of anatomy to assist with various procedures. Educate patients on oral hygiene practices and post-treatment care to promote ongoing health. Maintain inventory of dental supplies and ensure all equipment is functioning properly for daily operations. Collaborate with the team in four-handed dentistry techniques to optimize efficiency during procedures. Skills Proficiency with EMR systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Open Dental for managing patient records and documentation. Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times. Experience operating dental imaging equipment including X-ray machines and 3D scanners; familiarity with medical imaging standards is a plus. Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control protocols, aseptic techniques, and medical terminology relevant to dentistry. Ability to perform vital signs measurement accurately and support pediatric dentistry procedures when needed. Skilled in chairside assisting across various specialties such as prosthodontics, endodontics, general dentistry, and pediatrics. Experience working with dental software like Dentrix or Eaglesoft for scheduling, and record keeping. Excellent communication skills as a dental receptionist; capable of managing patient interactions professionally and empathetically. Ability to follow strict infection control guidelines ensuring a safe environment for patients and staff.
