Responsibilities Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup. Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions to inform treatment plans. Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, dietary choices, and preventive care strategies to promote lifelong dental health. Assist the dentist during procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to ensure efficiency and patient comfort. Take and develop medical imaging such as X-rays while adhering to infection control protocols and radiation safety standards. Maintain accurate and detailed medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations and office policies. Support infection control practices through aseptic technique, sterilization procedures, and proper handling of dental instruments. Qualifications Valid license as a Registered Dental Hygienist in accordance with state regulations. Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for documentation review and record keeping. Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and infection control standards. Experience working in general dentistry or pediatric dentistry settings is preferred; pediatric dentistry experience is a plus. Ability to perform chairside assisting tasks efficiently while maintaining excellent patient care standards. Familiarity with EMR systems, medical coding, and documentation review processes. Excellent communication skills to effectively educate patients of all ages about their oral health needs.
