Job Summary The Dental Assistant is responsible for providing support to dentists during patient procedures, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow in the dental office. This role involves preparing patients for treatments, sterilizing and organizing dental instruments, assisting with dental procedures, and providing patient education. The Dental Assistant will work closely with the dental team to maintain a safe and comfortable environment for patients and ensure that all dental procedures are performed according to established protocols. Job Responsibilities Patient Care and Assistance: Prepare patients for dental procedures by taking medical histories, verifying information, and ensuring patient comfort. Assist dentists during examinations and dental treatments by providing necessary tools, suction, and other equipment. Take and develop dental X-rays as needed, ensuring accurate and clear images. Provide chairside support during procedures, including restorative, surgical, and preventative treatments. Monitor patientsâ comfort and provide reassurance during procedures. Dental Equipment and Instrument Sterilization: Sterilize dental instruments and equipment according to infection control protocols. Ensure the proper handling, storage, and maintenance of dental equipment and instruments. Prepare treatment rooms by setting up necessary instruments, materials, and supplies for dental procedures. Maintain a clean and organized dental work environment to comply with health and safety regulations. Patient Education and Communication: Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions. Provide patients with information about dental procedures, addressing any concerns or questions they may have. Assist patients with scheduling follow-up appointments and provide reminders for upcoming visits. Administrative Support: Maintain patient records, including documenting procedures, treatment plans, and patient progress. Process patient billing and insurance claims, as well as assist with coordinating payments. Ensure that patient records and X-rays are filed and maintained in accordance with confidentiality and privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA). Assist with the front office, including scheduling appointments, answering phones, and providing administrative support when needed. Regulatory Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with dental practice laws, regulations, and infection control protocols. Assist in maintaining a safe environment by adhering to OSHA standards and other safety guidelines. Participate in regular training and continuing education to stay current on dental practices, technologies, and safety protocols. Team Collaboration and Support: Work closely with dentists, hygienists, and other dental staff to ensure smooth and effective patient care. Participate in team meetings and provide input on improving patient care, office efficiency, and workflow. Maintain open communication with all team members to enhance collaboration and patient experience. Essential Functions: Frequent standing, sitting, and use of dental instruments to assist during procedures. Occasional bending, lifting, and repositioning of dental equipment or materials (up to 25 pounds). Adequate hearing, vision, and manual dexterity to operate dental tools, communicate with patients, and perform required duties. Regular and reliable attendance to ensure consistent patient care and office operations Qualifications Essential Functions Stand, sit, and use dental instruments during procedures. Occasionally bend, lift, and move equipment or materials (up to 25 lbs). Maintain hearing, vision, and dexterity to perform clinical tasks and communicate effectively. Ensure reliable attendance for consistent patient care. High school diploma or equivalent required; dental assistant program preferred. CPR/BLS certification and state licensure required. Continuing education encouraged. Experience & Skills 1â2 years of dental assisting experience preferred. Proficient in dental instruments, procedures, sterilization, and X-rays. Skilled in organization, multitasking, and dental software. Strong communication, patient care, and attention to detail. Adheres to safety standards and patient confidentiality.
