Responsibilities Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments and supplies, ensuring all equipment is sterilized and ready for procedures. Assist dentists during various treatments such as cleanings, restorations, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry procedures. Take and develop dental X-rays and operate medical imaging equipment like 3D scanners to assist with diagnosis and treatment planning. Manage patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Epic, or similar platforms; ensure accurate documentation of procedures and medical histories. Maintain strict infection control protocols following aseptic techniques to safeguard patients and staff. Monitor vital signs and assess patient comfort throughout appointments to ensure a positive experience. Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, post-treatment care, and explain dental terminology clearly. Support administrative tasks including scheduling appointments, answering phone calls as a dental receptionist, verifying insurance information, and managing medical documentation. Assist with infection control procedures and maintain a sterile environment in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Support general dentistry procedures by providing chairside assistance while demonstrating knowledge of anatomy and dental terminology. Use dental software such as Dentrix or Epic to document procedures accurately and manage medical records efficiently. Collaborate with the team in four-handed dentistry practices to improve workflow efficiency and patient outcomes. Conduct routine checks of equipment like X-ray machines and 3D scanners to ensure optimal operation. Experience Candidates should have previous experience working in a dental clinic environment with familiarity in general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, or orthodontics preferred. Proficiency in EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix is highly desirable. A solid understanding of infection control standards, aseptic techniques, dental assisting procedures, medical terminology, and anatomy knowledge is essential. Experience with medical coding for billing purposes and managing medical records will be considered an asset. Certification in X-ray technology or radiography is required or preferred. Strong communication skills for explaining procedures to patients of all ages—particularly pediatrics—are vital for success in this role.
