Duties Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup. Conduct patient assessments by taking vital signs, medical histories, and reviewing medical records to ensure safe treatment planning. Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, preventive care, and treatment options tailored to their needs. Assist the dentist during procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to improve efficiency and patient comfort. Take and develop medical imaging such as X-rays, ensuring proper infection control and aseptic techniques are maintained at all times. Maintain accurate documentation of patient care activities in electronic medical record (EMR) systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations. Review documentation for accuracy, update medical records diligently, and assist with medical coding for billing purposes. Monitor and record vital signs before procedures to assess patient health status and identify any contraindications. Support infection control protocols by adhering to sterilization procedures and maintaining a clean clinical environment. Collaborate with the dental team to ensure seamless patient flow and high-quality care delivery in general dentistry and pediatric dentistry settings. Qualifications Valid licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist in accordance with state regulations. Proven experience working in dental offices or clinics, with familiarity using EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix preferred. Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques. Experience with pediatric dentistry is a plus, demonstrating comfort working with children in a pediatric dentistry environment. Excellent patient care skills with the ability to communicate effectively about dental health topics to diverse populations. Ability to perform chairside assisting duties when needed, including understanding medical imaging procedures and documentation review. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations related to medical records confidentiality and data security. Competency in medical terminology, medical coding, and documentation review for billing accuracy.
