The Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) will work under the direct supervision of the Dental Director to provide direct dental care. This role involves providing high-quality dental care to a diverse patient population, including underserved and low-income communities. The EFDA will perform expanded duties within their scope of practice as allowed by state regulations, to support the dentist and improve patient care efficiency and outcomes. This includes assisting with clinical procedures, preparing patients, and maintaining a clean and safe clinical environment. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES · Assist the dentist with a variety of clinical procedures, including restorative work, sealants, and other expanded function duties as permitted by state law. · Take and develop x-rays, ensuring patient comfort and proper safety procedures · Administer topical anesthetic, place dental liners, and perform coronal polishing if allowed with scope of practice. · Great patients, review medical histories, and prepare them for treatment · Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, pre- and post-operative care, and answer patient questions regarding procedures and treatments. · Ensure a welcoming, respectful environment, particularly for patients who may have anxiety about dental care of face language or cultural barriers. · Sterilize and maintain dental instruments and equipment following strict OSHA and CDC guidelines. · Set up and break down operatory rooms before and after procedures · Monitor and maintain inventory of dental supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels for efficient operations · Document patient treatments and procedures accurately in electronic health records (EHR) following HIPAA regulations. · Schedule appointments, manage patient records, and assist with other clerical tasks as needed. · Communicate with dental and medical staff within the FQHC to ensure coordinated patient care. · Indoctrination of other dental personnel (temporary assistants, clinical students, others in related field · Performs other duties as delegated and assigned by Dental Director Qualifications: · Graduate of an Expanded Function Dental Assistant Program with radiographic instruction and clinical experience to carry out required functions. · State Certification and licensure as an Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) · Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical experience in a dental setting; experience in an FQHC or community health environment preferred. · CPR/AED Certification · Proficient in taking x-rays, placing sealants, and performing other expanded duties · Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to serving diverse populations · Ability to assist and expedite patient care and assure smooth flow of patients · Ability to work effectively in a team environment with a focus on patient-centered care · Detail oriented with strong organizational skills and ability to multitask · Sensitivity and adaptability to work with diverse patient populations, including those with limited English proficiency or complex healthcare needs · Familiarity with dental software and EHR systems preferred Benefits: health insurance, vision insurance, dental insurance, disability insurance, life insurance, paid time-off, retirement plan This is a great full-time job opportunity working with a community-based and patient-directed organization that provides comprehensive primary health care and preventative care services.
