Department Name: Dental Position Title: Dental Hygienist Position Reports to: Chief Medical Officer FLSA Requirements: Date Issued: July 2021 Location: Parkersburg JOB STATEMENT/SUMMARY A dental hygienist is to perform advanced prophylactic and preventive dental procedures and work directly with the dentist and support staff to assure quality dental care to all patients. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION Perform oral prophylaxis Taking Radiographs Review patient’s medical and dental history Examine the teeth and surrounding tissues for evidence of plaque and periodontal disease and chart all findings Inspect the mouth and throat for evidence of disease Perform routine x-rays and refer abnormalities to the dentist Prepare dental hygiene treatment plan and the sequence of appointments needed to complete treatment Perform deep subgingival scaling, root debridement, and curettage under local anesthesia Polish teeth and apply stannous fluoride Educate patients on the need for daily oral health and fluoride Expose, develop, and process dental radiographs Community out-reach program involvement Participate in the review and implementation of procedures designed to ensure the comfort and safety of patients. Perform miscellaneous office functions as necessary. Maintain professional appearance and positive customer relations as established in the Employee Personnel Policy and Procedure Manual. Maintain established standards regarding confidentiality. Other assigned duties by the Administrator. JOB REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Graduate of an accredited dental hygiene program with an associate or bachelor degree. Skills in community dentistry preferred. Computer experience. Good written and verbal communication skills. Must show the ability to complete medical/dental office work in an accurate manner with reasonable speed in an atmosphere that has frequent interruptions.
