Overview We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) to join our dental team. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of dental procedures, excellent patient care skills, and proficiency with various dental software systems. The EFDA will support dentists in providing efficient, high-quality care while maintaining strict infection control and patient safety standards. Responsibilities Assist dentists during a wide range of procedures including restorative, prosthodontic, endodontic, and pediatric treatments. Perform chairside assisting with four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance workflow efficiency. Take and develop dental X-rays and medical imaging, ensuring proper technique and patient comfort. Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments and materials, maintaining aseptic techniques and infection control protocols. Manage patient vital signs and document medical history accurately using EMR systems such as Open Dental Operate 3D scanners and other advanced imaging equipment to support diagnostic procedures. Provide patient education on treatment plans, post-operative care, and oral health maintenance. Maintain detailed medical documentation and records in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, updating medical records, and assisting the front desk as needed. Uphold high standards of infection control and safety procedures within the dental clinic environment. Experience Prior experience working in a dental clinic setting is required; familiarity with general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry is preferred. Proficiency with a dental software system such as Open Dental managing medical records and documentation. Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical coding, and HIPAA compliance is essential. Experience with chairside assisting techniques such as four-handed dentistry and aseptic technique is necessary. Familiarity with X-ray procedures, medical imaging technology, including 3D scanners, and vital signs monitoring is highly desirable. Previous roles involving dental assisting or medical documentation will be advantageous for success in this position.
