Overview We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) to join our reputable dental practice. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of dental procedures, excellent patient care skills, and the ability to operate various dental technology systems. This role offers an opportunity to work in a collaborative environment focused on delivering high-quality dental care across general and specialized dentistry services, including pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, and endodontics. The EFDA will play a vital role in supporting dentists during procedures, managing patient records, and ensuring infection control standards are upheld. Duties Assist dentists with a variety of procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance efficiency and patient comfort. Prepare treatment rooms, sterilize instruments, and maintain aseptic techniques in accordance with infection control protocols. Take and develop dental X-rays, including 3D scans, ensuring proper positioning and safety measures. Record vital signs and medical history information accurately within electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic. Manage medical documentation and coding for insurance claims and patient records while maintaining HIPAA compliance. Provide chairside assistance during restorative, prosthodontic, endodontic, and pediatric procedures. Educate patients on post-treatment care and dental health maintenance using appropriate dental terminology. Operate digital imaging equipment for medical imaging purposes and ensure proper documentation of findings. Support the dental team with administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments as a dental receptionist when needed. Maintain knowledge of anatomy relevant to dentistry to assist with complex procedures involving anatomy knowledge. Qualifications Valid Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) certification or license. Proven experience working in a dental clinic setting with proficiency in general dentistry procedures. Familiarity with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, Epic, or similar platforms. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and infection control standards within a dental environment. Experience with pediatric dentistry practices is preferred. Ability to perform X-ray procedures safely and accurately; certification in radiography is required if applicable. Strong understanding of dental terminology, medical terminology, and medical coding practices. Skilled in chairside assisting with four-handed dentistry techniques for efficiency during procedures involving prosthodontics or endodontics. Knowledge of 3D scanners and digital imaging technology is advantageous. Excellent communication skills to educate patients effectively about treatment plans and oral health maintenance.
