Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Orthodontic Dental Assistant to join our dynamic dental team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in dental assisting, with specific expertise in orthodontic procedures and patient care. As an Orthodontic Dental Assistant, you will support orthodontists in delivering high-quality treatment, ensuring patient comfort, and maintaining efficient clinic operations. Your role will be vital in providing exceptional orthodontic services while adhering to strict safety and infection control standards. Duties Assist orthodontists during various procedures, including bracket placement, wire adjustments, and appliance fittings, utilizing four-handed dentistry techniques for efficiency. Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments and ensuring all necessary materials and equipment, such as 3D scanners and medical imaging devices, are ready for patient appointments. Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy. Manage electronic medical records (EMR systems) such as Cloud 9 to document treatment plans, progress notes, and medical documentation accurately. Educate patients on orthodontic care instructions, appliance maintenance, and oral hygiene practices tailored for pediatric dentistry patients. Monitor vital signs and assess patient comfort during procedures to ensure safety and well-being throughout visits. Maintain infection control protocols by practicing aseptic techniques and adhering to OSHA standards within the dental clinic environment. Serve as a dental receptionist when needed by scheduling appointments, managing patient flow, and providing excellent customer service to foster a welcoming atmosphere. Qualifications Proven experience as a dental assistant with a focus on orthodontics or general dentistry; experience with pediatric dentistry is highly desirable. Proficiency in dental terminology, medical coding, and understanding of anatomy related to oral health. Familiarity with EMR systems such as Cloud 9; experience with medical records management is preferred. Knowledge of infection control practices, aseptic technique, and sterilization procedures within a dental setting. Ability to operate dental imaging equipment including X-ray machines and 3D scanners effectively and safely. Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication skills to educate patients of all ages about treatment procedures and oral health maintenance. Certification in dental assisting from an accredited program; additional certification in radiography or pediatric dentistry is advantageous.
