Responsibilities Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry. Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments and ensuring all necessary supplies are ready for patient care. Take and develop X-rays using advanced medical imaging equipment such as 3D scanners while adhering to strict safety protocols. Manage patient records accurately within Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems like Open Dental, ensuring HIPAA compliance at all times. Provide chairside assistance by handing instruments, suctioning, and maintaining a clear operative field during procedures. Monitor vital signs and assist with patient comfort to ensure a positive experience from check-in to check-out. Implement infection control procedures following aseptic techniques to maintain a safe clinical environment. Support the dental receptionist in scheduling appointments, updating medical documentation, and managing medical records efficiently. Utilize dental terminology confidently to communicate effectively with team members and patients. Maintain knowledge of anatomy relevant to dentistry to assist with diagnosis and treatment planning. Qualifications Previous experience working in a dental clinic setting is highly preferred; familiarity with dental assisting is essential. Proficiency with EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft; experience with Epic or similar platforms is a plus. Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations and medical coding standards for accurate documentation. Knowledge of infection control practices, aseptic technique, and sterilization procedures. Ability to perform X-ray imaging safely while adhering to radiation safety guidelines. Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain procedures using clear dental terminology. Certification in CPR or basic life support (BLS) is desirable; ongoing education in pediatric dentistry or prosthodontics is advantageous. Demonstrated knowledge of anatomy relevant to dentistry and medical terminology for effective patient care.
