Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Pediatric Dentistry Expanded Duties Dental Assistant to join our team on a four-day workweek schedule. This role is vital in supporting our pediatric dental practice by providing exceptional chairside assistance, patient care, and administrative support. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of dental procedures, infection control, and pediatric-specific care, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for our young patients. Responsibilities Assist the dentist during various pediatric dental procedures, including restorations, extractions, and preventive treatments, utilizing four-handed dentistry techniques. The EDDA we are looking for must be able to fully utilize their skills. Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments and materials, ensuring aseptic technique and infection control standards are maintained. Take and develop X-rays and medical imaging, including 3D scans when applicable, while adhering to HIPAA regulations. Record vital signs and medical history information accurately in electronic medical records (EMR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix. Our practice uses Curve. Manage patient flow efficiently by greeting patients, updating medical documentation, and assisting with medical coding as needed. Educate young patients and their guardians on oral health practices in a friendly and professional manner. Support the dental receptionist duties by scheduling appointments and managing patient records within Epic or other EMR platforms. Maintain clinical supplies, sterilize instruments, and ensure the treatment area remains clean and organized according to infection control protocols. Demonstrate knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy relevant to pediatrics, and general dentistry procedures to support comprehensive patient care. Skills Proficiency with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic for documentation and scheduling purposes. Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations related to patient privacy and medical documentation. Experience with pediatric dentistry procedures including X-ray techniques suitable for childrenâs anatomy. Ability to perform chairside assisting with a focus on four-handed dentistry techniques for efficiency. Knowledge of vital signs monitoring, infection control practices, aseptic technique, and sterilization processes. Familiarity with medical imaging technology such as 3D scanners used in dental diagnostics. Excellent communication skills for educating young patients and collaborating with team members including dental receptionists. Understanding of dental terminology across general dentistry disciplines including prosthodontics, endodontics, and medical coding related to pediatrics. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail in all aspects of patient care.
