Orthodontic Assistant II - Texas Children's Hospital - Austin, TX

We are searching for an Orthodontic Assistant II – someone who works well in a fast-paced setting and a team player. In this role, you will provide orthodontic assistance in the patient care area in a manner developmentally appropriate for the ages of patients served (0-18 years) and adults as necessary. Job Duties & Responsibilities Sterilizes and disinfects instruments not sent to Central Sterilization and Processing, cleans dental carts and sets up instrument trays daily according to guidelines established by Hospital. Prepares materials and assists orthodontist during orthodontic procedures on children (and adults) as necessary on a daily basis. Participates in Hospital quality improvement activities (committees, teams, task forces), offers written or verbal recommendations and participates in the development of team goals yearly. Makes follow-up appointments for children (and adults) as needed. Reviews charts and schedules for next day’s clinics to ensure necessary information is available for the orthodontist Lab duties Required for completely satisfactory performance in this job is a knowledge of orthodontist procedures. Should have computer skills. Required for completely satisfactory performance in this job is the ability to use dental equipment including chairs, carts, amalgamating, curing lights and OTC sterilizer The ability to work with patients with special needs, e.g. cleft lip and palate As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, all successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards. Skills & Requirements H.S. Diploma or GED Registered Dental Assistant from the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners required Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association 6 months required experience as an orthodontic assistant - 1 year preferred Cranial Facial experience preferred Willing to support both dental and orthodontics
