Responsibilities Cleaning teeth : Perform routine cleanings by removing plaque, tartar, and stains from teeth using hand and ultrasonic instruments. Assessing oral health : Evaluate patients' teeth and gums for signs of disease, infection, or other abnormalities. Taking dental X-rays : Capture high-quality X-rays to assist in diagnosing dental issues. Screening for oral health problems : Check for signs of cavities, gingivitis, periodontal disease, oral cancers, and other conditions. Patient Education Oral hygiene instruction : Teach patients proper brushing, flossing, and other oral care techniques. Explain procedures : Educate patients on procedures they may need and help them understand treatment plan. Sealants : Apply dental sealants to the surfaces of teeth to prevent cavities. Update Health/Medical history and conditions Sterilize equipment : Ensure that all instruments and tools are sterilized and prepared according to safety protocols. Follow infection control guidelines : Adhere to all health and safety regulations to prevent cross-contamination. Scheduling appointments : Book and confirm follow-up appointments for patients. Inventory management : Track dental supplies and order materials when necessary. Continuing education : Stay updated with the latest techniques and developments in dental hygiene through courses and certifications.
