Dental Hygienist (Part-time) - Kalamazoo Pediatric Dentistry - Portage, MI

Dental Hygienist Part-time Position: Dental Hygienist Department: Clinical Pediatric Purpose: Kalamazoo Pediatric Dentistry is a fast-paced practice requiring a variety of job skills and personal work ethic. We strive to provide compassionate, expertly-delivered dental care to children, adolescents, and children with special needs. We try to laugh and have fun so the children have a great experience at the dentist. Essential Functions: 1. Performing preliminary periodontal exam. 2. Taking and developing/copying X-rays. 3. Performing prophylaxis, periodontal therapy procedures, fluoride treatments, place sealants, and other treatments as directed by the dentist. 4. Recording and charting the results of the exam and treatment; closing charges out in a timely manner using Dentrix. 5. Educating patients on treatment and home care (this includes faithfully completing Hygiene Patient Checklist for Routine & O.R. Patients) 6. Preparing and maintaining hygiene rooms and equipment including cleaning and sterilizing hygiene instruments, setting up trays, and cleaning hygiene rooms. 7. Representing the practice in a professional manner, focusing on the needs of the patients. 8. Working respectfully and cooperatively with management, co-workers, patients, and vendors. 9. Booking 6 month appointments for patients & helping with recall appointments when able 10. Faithfully completing the Daily Checklist for Hygienist before leaving for the day 11. Any extra jobs that may arise: Working expos; school presentations 12. Performing documentation and office activities as requested, handling any other duties as assigned Objectives: 1. To provide a thorough hygiene treatment and periodontal exam to patients. 2. To accurately and timely record the results of these exams and treatments. 3. To assure the safety and quality of the treatment. 4. To assure the needs of the patients are met and primary. 5. To represent the practice to patients in a professional, friendly, and caring manner. Measured By: 1. The dentist’s review of the treatment for quality and thoroughness. 2. The timely completion of tasks. 3. The review of rooms and instruments care. 4. The examination and assessment of hygiene knowledge. 5. Feedback from patients and co-workers. Minimum Education: An associate’s degree in dental hygiene with an active license in dental hygiene. Minimum Experience: No experience required, although preferred. Minimum Skills Required: 1. Dental hygiene 2. Customer service 3. Organizational 4. Attention to detail 5. Dentrix experience Minimum Physical Expectations: 1. Physical activity that often involves keyboarding, sitting, phone work and filing. 2. Physical activity that sometimes requires working on a computer. 3. Physical activity that sometimes involves activities such as lifting under 25 pounds and standing. 4. Physical activity that always requires bending, stooping, reaching, and/or twisting. Minimum Environmental Expectations: 1. Physical activity that sometimes requires exposure to loud noises that do not require ear plugs. 2. Physical activity that often requires exposure to hazardous materials involved in a dental practice, including blood bore pathogens. 3.
