Job Summary We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) to join our dynamic dental team. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of dental procedures, excellent chairside assisting skills, and the ability to perform expanded functions in a fast-paced clinical environment. This role involves supporting general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry procedures while ensuring the highest standards of infection control and patient care. The EFDA will work closely with dentists to improve patient outcomes and streamline clinical operations. Responsibilities Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures including restorations, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry. Perform expanded functions such as coronal polishing, applying sealants, and taking impressions under dentist supervision. Prepare patients for treatment by taking vital signs, medical history, and explaining procedures. Operate dental imaging equipment including X-ray machines and 3D scanners while adhering to HIPAA regulations. Manage medical documentation and maintain accurate medical records using EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic. Ensure infection control protocols are strictly followed using aseptic techniques and proper sterilization procedures. Assist with chairside procedures utilizing four-handed dentistry techniques for efficiency and comfort. Take and develop dental radiographs ensuring proper technique and safety standards are met. Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, updating patient information in the dental management system, and assisting as a dental receptionist when needed. Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment in compliance with OSHA standards. Stay updated on dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and current best practices in general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatrics. Qualifications Valid Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) certification/license required. Proven experience in dental assisting within a clinical setting; experience with pediatric dentistry preferred. Proficiency with EMR systems including Eaglesoft, Dentrix, Epic or similar platforms. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations related to medical documentation and patient privacy. Skilled in chairside assisting with expertise in four-handed dentistry techniques. Experience operating X-ray equipment and familiarity with medical imaging technology including 3D scanners. Strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, infection control protocols, and aseptic techniques. Ability to perform vital signs assessment and assist with medical imaging procedures accurately. Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain procedures clearly to patients of all ages. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
