Duties Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including general dentistry, prosthodontics and endodontics. Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up supplies, and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly using infection control and aseptic techniques. Take and develop dental X-rays when necessary, ensuring accurate medical imaging for diagnosis. Manage patient records by updating medical documentation, medical records, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy. Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing medical coding, and operating EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Open Dental. Monitor vital signs and assist with patient comfort to promote a positive experience from check-in to check-out. Maintain a clean, organized clinic environment while adhering to infection control protocols and anatomy knowledge standards. Skills Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting and four-handed dentistry to maximize efficiency during procedures. Strong understanding of dental terminology, medical terminology, and medical coding for accurate documentation. Experience with dental software such as Open Dental for scheduling, record keeping, and billing processes. Knowledge of infection control practices and aseptic techniques essential for patient safety. Ability to operate dental imaging equipment including X-ray confidently.
