Overview We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) to join our dynamic dental team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in dental assisting, with specialized training in expanded functions procedures that enhance patient care and streamline clinical operations. As an EFDA, you will play a vital role in delivering comprehensive dental services, supporting dentists in complex procedures, and ensuring a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment for our patients. Responsibilities Assist dentists during a wide range of procedures including restorations, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry with precision and efficiency. Perform expanded functions such as placing fillings, applying sealants, and taking impressions under appropriate supervision and within scope of practice. Prepare and maintain dental instruments, materials, and equipment, ensuring adherence to infection control protocols and aseptic techniques. Take and develop high-quality dental radiographs (X-rays), including 3D scans using advanced imaging technology. Manage patient records accurately using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations. Assist with chairside procedures by providing vital signs monitoring, medical documentation, and medical coding as needed for comprehensive patient care. Support the dental reception area by scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and managing patient flow efficiently. Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment that adheres to infection control standards and OSHA guidelines. Collaborate with the team to deliver four-handed dentistry for improved efficiency and patient comfort. Educate patients on oral health practices and post-treatment care to promote ongoing dental wellness. Requirements Valid Expanded Functions Dental Assistant certification or license in accordance with state regulations. Proven experience working in general dentistry with familiarity in pediatric dentistry preferred. Proficiency in EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft; experience with Epic is a plus. Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques. Ability to perform X-ray procedures safely while maintaining compliance with radiation safety standards. Experience with medical imaging technology including 3D scanners; knowledge of medical documentation and records management is advantageous. Excellent communication skills combined with the ability to work effectively within a team environment. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations related to patient privacy and data security. Familiarity with dental assisting procedures across specialties such as prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatrics is highly desirable.
