A dental hygienist is a licensed preventive oral health professional who works alongside dentists to assess patient health, remove plaque and tartar (prophylaxis), take x-rays, apply preventive materials (sealants/fluoride), and educate patients on oral hygiene. They play a key role in identifying periodontal disease and providing patient-centered care.
