Overview We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Periodontics Dental Assistant to join our specialized dental team. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional chairside assistance during periodontal procedures, support patient care, and maintain clinical efficiency. This role requires a strong understanding of dental terminology, infection control protocols, and proficiency with dental software systems. The successful applicant will contribute to creating a comfortable environment for patients while ensuring adherence to all safety and health standards. Responsibilities Assist the periodontist during various procedures including scaling, root planing, and surgical interventions. Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments and supplies, ensuring aseptic techniques are followed. Take and record vital signs, medical history, and other patient information accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Dentrix. Operate dental imaging equipment including 3D scanners to obtain diagnostic images while maintaining radiation safety standards. Manage patient flow efficiently by greeting patients, updating medical records, and scheduling appointments as a dental receptionist when needed. Ensure infection control protocols are strictly followed, including sterilization of instruments and maintaining a sterile environment. Provide patient education on oral hygiene practices specific to periodontal health and post-procedure care instructions. Support the dental team with administrative tasks related to medical documentation and coding in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Assist with pediatric dentistry cases when required, demonstrating knowledge of pediatric dental procedures and terminology. Maintain inventory of dental supplies and ensure all equipment is functioning properly for daily operations. Qualifications Proven experience as a Dental Assistant in a periodontal or general dentistry setting preferred. Proficiency with EMR systems such as Dentrix is highly desirable. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques. Familiarity with dental imaging technology including 3D scanners. Strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and medical terminology relevant to dentistry. Ability to perform chairside assisting using four-handed dentistry techniques efficiently. Experience with vital signs measurement and medical documentation is advantageous. Certification in radiography required; additional certifications related to pediatric dentistry or endodontics are a plus. Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate patients effectively and work collaboratively within a team environment.
