The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in dental assisting with specialized knowledge in orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, and general dentistry procedures. This role involves supporting orthodontists in delivering high-quality patient care, managing clinical tasks efficiently, and maintaining a safe and sterile environment. Responsibilities Assist the orthodontist during patient examinations, procedures, and chairside activities using four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance efficiency. Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up necessary supplies, and ensuring adherence to infection control protocols using aseptic techniques. Take and develop dental X-rays while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations regarding patient privacy and medical documentation standards. Manage patient records electronically through EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring accuracy in medical records and dental terminology documentation. Educate patients on orthodontic care instructions, including appliance maintenance and oral hygiene practices tailored for pediatric dentistry needs. Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments as a dental receptionist, verifying insurance information, and assisting with medical coding procedures. Monitor vital signs when necessary and assist with medical imaging procedures to support comprehensive patient assessments. Maintain knowledge of anatomy relevant to orthodontics, prosthodontics, endodontics, and general dentistry to provide informed assistance during procedures. Qualifications Must have 1 year orthodontic assistant experience Must have RDA license Adherence to all safety and infection control rules is required Proven experience in dental assisting within a clinical setting, preferably with orthodontic or pediatric dentistry backgrounds. Familiarity with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix; experience with Epic is a plus. Strong understanding of infection control practices, aseptic techniques, and sterilization procedures. Knowledge of dental terminology, medical terminology, and medical coding standards related to dental records management. Ability to perform X-ray imaging accurately while adhering to safety protocols for radiation exposure. Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate patients effectively across age groups including pediatrics. Knowledge of 3D scanners or other advanced dental imaging tools is advantageous but not required. A professional attitude combined with organizational skills necessary for managing multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
