Responsibilities: Complete dental prophylaxis by cleaning deposits and stains from teeth and beneath gum margins. Detect disease by performing oral cancer screenings and examining gums for periodontal disease. Arrest dental decay through the application of fluorides and other cavity-preventing agents. Assist the dentist in managing dental and medical emergencies by maintaining CPR certification and emergency supplies. Educate patients on oral hygiene, plaque control, and postoperative care, and provide reminders for upcoming visits. Document dental hygiene services by recording vital signs, medical and dental histories, and charting in patient records. Ensure the operation of dental equipment through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and keeping up with new techniques.
